Surveys are broken

Why? We want to get without giving.

We often don’t get the insights we want (so we can’t make the changes we need).

Why? We want to get without giving.

In research, we solve for this by paying patients, better known as giving a “stipend.”

Everywhere else, we just ask (and hope)… which rarely works.

Not surprisingly, we get a low response rate + vague non-actionable insights.

3 SOLUTIONS:

1. Build trust first Create a no-judgement environment. Go beyond pushing paper. Make it a conversation.

2. Share why Explain how their info will provide value. How it’ll help them, future patients, the world of medicine.

3. Respect time We love long, validated surveys. But patients don’t. Prioritize depth over breadth.

TL;DR —

  • Make it a conversation.
  • Share the why.
  • Ask less.
